The city of Moorpark is located in Ventura County, California. The city is thought to have been named for the Moorpark apricots that grow there, but it was perhaps named for its rolling green hills and moor-like appearance instead. The city spans 12.8 square miles and .2 square miles are covered by water. Temperatures in the area range from the upper 60s to the upper 80s throughout the year. The city was officially founded in 1900 when an application for a post office was made. The city has also been home to an escaped Siberian Tiger named Tuffy, a huge chicken farm named Egg City and the location of discovery for 75% complete set Mammoth remains found in the foothills of Moorpark.

According to the 2010 United States Census the city had a population of 34,421 which spanned 10,484 households. Homes for sale in Moorpark are largely upper middle-class, but do span into the luxury home market. Rental and lease properties include apartments of varying sizes, condominiums and townhouses. According to the 2013 census there were 10,738 housing units in the city, 78% of which were owner-occupied and 22% of which were renter or lessee occupied.

The city of Moorpark is known for its small town charm, friendly neighborhoods and its public art. The list of the city’s public art include mainly fountains and sculptures in locations throughout the city like the rock sculpture with fountain at end of Science Drive, the bronze figure sculpture in Campus Plaza, the fountain in

Moorpark Marketplace and many others. The city prides itself in these works of art and efforts to add new art continues each year. The city has 18 parks, including Community Center Park, Virginia Colony Park, Mammoth Highlands Park and others. These parks feature a variety of amenities such as picnic pavilions, sports fields and courts, playground areas and walking trails.
