Port Hueneme is a sweet little beach city located in Ventura County, California. It’s nearest neighbors are the gorgeous Pacific Ocean and Oxnard Naval Base. The city’s name comes from it’s distant past based on a Chumash phrase “wene me” which means “resting place”. Much of the city’s history is connected to the port which is the only deep water port between the Port of San Francisco and the Port of Los Angeles. The port has been a major hub in importing of good and the exporting of goods for centuries, especially the receiving of goods such as automobiles, pineapples and bannanas, and the shipping of onions, strawberries and flowers. The Naval base is the only Navy controlled Harbor from San Diego Bay all the way up to Puget Sound in Washington.

According to the 2010 census Port Hueneme is home to about 21,723 residents. The three largest ethnic groups in the city are Caucasian with 56.9% of the population, Hispanic and Latino with 52.3% of the population and Asian with 6% of the population. The two largest age groups within the city are the under 18 bracket with 27.6% of the population and the 25-45 year-olds with 32% of the population. The median household income for the city was $42,246 and the median family income was $46,056.

The education of children in Port Hueneme is supervised by the Hueneme School District and the Oxnard School District . In the city there are six elementary schools, one junior high and two middle schools, two high schools one for each district.

Aside from the military housing the homes for sale in the city range from starter homes up to comfortable middle class homes. There are also rental and lease propertie, as well as a few larger more luxurious homes.
