Ventura or San Beunaventura as it is officially named is the County seat of Ventura County, California. The first inhabitants of the area were members of the Chumash tribe. The area has revealed several artifacts from this ancient culture.

The next inhabitants were the Mitskanaka who were sea travelers in canoes called tomol. Then came Spanish Missionaries, in the late 18th century the first mission was founded in the area, Mission San Beunaventura from which the town eventually gained its name. After the Civil War, European settlers moved into the area buying land from Mexican families that lived in the area. Ventura did not draw large numbers of immigrants because of inaccessibility. The city was incorporated in 1866.

Like much of Southern California Ventura enjoys a mild Mediterranean climate. The breezes that come from the Pacific Ocean keeps condistions temperate. The city spans 32.1 square miles, 10.4 of which are covered by water. Ventura is predominantly middle class housing options including houses, apartments, condominiums and more. Homes for sale range from starter homes up through luxury homes. Within the city 55.9% of homes are owner occupied and 44.1% are renter occupied spaces. Ventura is home to 106,433 residents according to the 2010 United States Census and a population density of 3,316 people per square mile.

The Ventura area has many attractions such as River Ridge Golf Course, Ventura Harbor and Pierpont Bay. River Ridge Golf Course is home to two gorgeous courses, the Vineyard course and the Victoria Lakes course. River Ridge also offers the up-and-coming sport of foot-golf, which is a unique blend of soccer and golf. The Golf course offers catering and is also available for weddings and other special events. Other points of interest include the Ventura Visitors Center, the Majestic Ventura Theater which is an early 20th century landmark. Wine tasting is growing in popularity and in nearby Oxnard is Herzog Wine Cellars, the largest producer of Kosher wines on the coast. While in Oxnard, visitors enjoy historic home tours, trolley tours and so much more.

Ventura’s best known surfing spot in the area is at Surfer’s Point at the Ventura County Fairgrounds. With comfortable housing, quiet streets, and countless entertainment and employment options Ventura City is the best of both worlds.
